TORONTO – John Campbell has been elected in Toronto’s Ward 4, Etobicoke Centre, replacing out-going councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby.
Lindsay Luby hung up her hat after nearly 30 years in politics, announcing to city council in August that she would not be seeking re-election in the 2014 Toronto election.
Mayor Rob Ford thanked her for her service, despite the fact that the two had squared off in the past. In 2005, Lindsay Luby and then-councillor Ford got into a screaming match, reportedly over a complaint about a pothole.
Ten candidates were running for Ward 4, including Niels Christensen (who Lindsay Luby has thrown her support behind), and former Progressive Conservative MPP Chris Stockwell, who was favoured by Ford to replace Doug Holyday in Ward 3 in 2013. But Campbell came out on top with more than 34 per cent of the vote (with 38 out of 39 polls reporting).
