SUMMERLAND, B.C. — The B.C. Coroners Service has released the name of the pedestrian struck and killed on Highway 97 in Summerland Monday morning.
Gildo Vit, 77, was crossing the highway near the intersection of Steuart Street when he was hit by an oncoming semi-trailer transport truck. He wasn’t in a marked crosswalk.

Vit was rushed to Penticton Regional Hospital but died from his injuries shortly after arrival.
RCMP continue to investigate but don’t believe speed was a factor in the crash.
