WINNIPEG — A Red River College spokesperson has confirmed one of its instructors was sent to hospital yesterday after he was allegedly punched and kicked by a former student.
The incident took place at its Notre Dame Campus, the college said, and both its own security and the Winnipeg Police Service responded.
The instructor reportedly teaches with the School for Indigenous Education, Access and Education Programs.
The faculty member went to hospital and was later released. A suspect has been arrested and charged.
“The safety and security of staff, students and visitors is of paramount importance,” Keith Walker, Security Services Director, Red River College’s security services director, said in a statement released Wednesday evening. “We are reviewing the incident and ensuring college practices and processes are examined. Any required improvements will be implemented. Our first area of concern is that our staff has the necessary support and care and within the college. To that end, we are raising awareness of existing safety and security measures.”
