WATCH: Police are looking for witnesses after a man was struck and killed by a garbage truck.
TORONTO – A man is dead after being struck by a garbage truck near Yonge-Dundas Square early Wednesday morning.
Police say the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. in an alleyway across from the downtown Toronto public square.
Toronto EMS say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A GFL dump truck was in the lane way and struck a pedestrian,” said Toronto Police Service Constable Clint Stibbe.
“There are some surveillance cameras directly at the scene of impact and we are seizing those tapes.”
The identity of the man has not been released.
Police say the alleyway is traveled frequently by vehicles and pedestrians.
“It is traveled a fair bit by cars and pedestrians,” Cst. Stibbe said. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s something unusual that pedestrian would use this route.”
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
