TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays have played third baseman Brett Lawrie on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Lawrie had just returned to the lineup after missing more than a month with a broken right index finger.

He suffered this new injury Tuesday as Toronto opened a three-game series at home against Baltimore.

He left the game after just three innings.

The Blue Jays had been hoping Lawrie would be able to rest and avoid another trip to the DL.

Lawrie was placed on the DL retroactive to Wednesday.

To fill up the 25-man roster, the team recalled left-handed reliever Rob Rasmussen from triple-A Buffalo.
