LUMBY, B.C. – A home on the tranquil back roads of a small Okanagan town was the site of a murder and attempted suicide Thursday evening, according to RCMP.
The suspect is in serious condition after being air lifted to Kelowna General Hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
RCMP were called to the 300 block of Trinity Valley Road near Lumby, east of Vernon, at 6:12 P.M. Thursday for a report of a disturbance.
The body of a 51-year-old Lumby woman was located in the home as well as the injured man. The two were said to have been in a relationship a short time.
Her death is being treated as a homicide and RCMP say there were no previous calls for police attendance to the property during the reported duration of the relationship.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit, North Okanagan RCMP, “E” Division Serious Crimes and the B.C. Coroners service are investigating.
Police are seeking public information and can be contacted at the Vernon RCMP detachment, 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Charges against the injured suspect will be recommended after consultation with Crown Counsel, say RCMP.
