5 people injured in 8 vehicle collision on Hwy. 403 in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Ont. – Provincial police say two people are in hospital with life-threatening injuries following an eight-vehicle collision on Highway 403 in Burlington.

Police say a cruiser and five other vehicles were on the shoulder of the highway near Waterdown Road on Monday evening when an SUV struck five vehicles on the shoulder and two more on the roadway.

A 59-year-old Burlington woman in of one of the stopped vehicles and a 44-year-old Ancaster man driving the SUV suffered life-threatening injuries.

Three children in another of the stopped vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The OPP say officers have not yet determined why the driver of the SUV struck the other vehicles.

The westbound lanes of Highway 403 at the accident site have re-opened.
