Ex-girlfriend of accused Lorry Santos murderer testifies

SASKATOON – The ex-girlfriend of a man accused of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Lorry Santos took the stand in the second day of his trial.

Randy O’Hagan was charged after Santos, a mother of four, was shot in the early morning hours at her home in the Westview neighbourhood in what police say was a case of a mistaken address.

Protesting his innocence, Chelsey Hart, took to the stand in court, mouthing “I love you” to O’Hagan and blowing him a kiss once her testimony was complete.

At the time of the murder, Hart said she and O’Hagan were addicted to OxyContin, spending has much as $600 a day on the habit.

“He only did them because I needed to do them every day.”

She was told O’Hagan was going to see a friend in Saskatoon when he left Lloydminster two days prior to the Sept. 12, 2012 shooting that took the life of Santos, who was on maternity leave from Cameco.

According to Hart, she was aware there was a hit out for a former member of the White Boy Posse a month before the shooting and there was a money reward to the tune of $40,000.

Hart recalled put two and two together after the shooting of Lorry Santos.

“I didn’t want to know anything,” said Hart.

According to Hart, she still loves O’Hagan and communicates with him through a girlfriend since the two currently have a no-contact order.

Prior to the murder, Hart says O’Hagan was told to break up with her by fellow gang members who suspected her of being “a rat.”

“They were going to cut my head off and take it to my parent’s doorstep.”

Hart says the White Boy Posse “ruined our lives.”

Also taking the stand was Saskatoon police Sgt. Lorne Keen.

Keen, who is part of the forensic identification section, described the weapons believed to have been used in the Santos murder.

He also testified about the recovery of a plastic bag under a shed in the Sutherland area which contained three socks – two with handguns and one with live rounds.

Police described the two weapons as a Glock Model 22 and Smith & Wesson 9mm.

The court also heard from a witness protect by a publication ban order by the judge at the request of the crown.

The trial resumes on Wednesday.
