Experts say many drivers underestimate the dangers involved with pulling off a busy highway and getting out of their vehicle.

“Depending on the road, it might be best to stay in the vehicle and phone for a tow truck,” suggests Ron Wilson from AMA. “You definitely don’t want to walk into traffic, don’t want to try and do repairs on some type of highway. It’s not safe.”

He adds that drivers should ensure their vehicle is properly maintained, so there is less chance of a breakdown.

So far, no charges have been laid in connection with the crash, but the investigation is still ongoing.
