WINNIPEG – Police say they’ve busted a counterfeit money operation.

Officers were alerted March 12 to someone trying pay for a purchase at a store in the 400 block of Portage Avenue using counterfeit US $20 bills.

The man was arrested and found with “numerous counterfeit Canadian and American bank notes,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

The next day, officers raided a home at Yale Ave. and Wabasha St. in Transcona and seized a scanner/printer, a laptop computer and counterfeit bills, both completed and not completed.

“A 28-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing a number of charges including Possess Counterfeit Instruments, Making Counterfeit Money and the Possession and Uttering of Counterfeit Money,” police say.

Police say retailers and the public can learn more about counterfeit money on the Bank of Canada’s website.
