Suspects take off with $15k diamond ring

MONCTON – The manager of Crescent Gold and Diamonds jewellery store is hoping someone has information that could lead to the recovery of a very expensive diamond ring.

RCMP say the ring was reported stolen around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Two young girls walked into the store at the Champlain Place shopping centre and asked a clerk to try on a ring.

It was one of the most expensive in the shop, worth about $15,000.

“They asked her a few questions about the karat of gold the size of diamond and then she just turned around and ran out the door,” Comeau said.

The girls ran towards the nearest exit. One of the jewellery store employees followed the girls and the other alerted police.

They were last seen running towards a Dollarama shop out side the shopping centre. RCMP say they’ve since identified the young girls but can’t identify them because they are minors.

“Probably someone knows where they are so we would urge anyone with that information to come forward. I would even go as far as saying these two girls should come and speak with us,” said RCMP Cst. Damien Theriault.

Comeau is continuing her search for the ring, checking online and calling pawn shops around the city.

The manager of Parlour Pawn on Mountain Road said his store was one of the first places she called.

“The item in question is going to be very unique and easy to spot because its a very large diamond,” said Bill Daigle.

Daigle said his staff keep in close contact with police.

“We take identification on anything we buy or anything we buy or anything we pawn,” Daigle said. “Also we have 24 cameras in our store and we don’t hide the fact we have recording of them.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call RCMP at 506-857-2400, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
