TORONTO – If your < body > is looking a little different after a weekend of shenanigans — and you can’t figure out what the < source > is, don’t panic, it’s probably bad HTML, not an STD.
According to results from a recent study published in the Los Angeles Times, 11 per cent of Americans think HTML, a mark-up language used to create websites, is a sexually transmitted disease.
When it comes to mainstream tech terms, Americans are not very savvy, according to the VoucherCloud survey.
VoucherCloud, a coupons website, surveyed 2,392 people ages 18 or older and the respondents “were given both tech and non-tech terms and were asked to choose from three possible definitions,” according to the Times.
The survey revealed that 42 per cent of respondents think a “motherboard” is “the deck of a cruise ship,” and not a computer circuit board, while 23 per cent think an MP3 was a Star Wars robot, not a digital audio file.
The term “software” is a general term for computer programs, not comfortable clothing like the 15 per cent of the Americans surveyed believed.
