Toronto and GTA under rainfall warning

WATCH: The Thursday, February 20, 2014 weather forecast for Toronto, Ontario and the surrounding area.

TORONTO – You’d better pack an umbrella — or better yet, hip waders.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Toronto and the GTA.

The warning extends from Windsor to Kingston.

Heavy rain is expected to roll into southern Ontario Thursday morning, reaching the GTA by midday Thursday. The GTA will get between 25 to 50 mm of rain as two systems merge and intensify.

The highest amounts are expected in the Windsor-Sarnia to Hamilton-Niagara corridor.

There is also the chance that some thunderstorms may be embedded in the system.

But after the rain ends on Friday, high winds out of the southwest will develop with gusts of between 70 to 80 km/h.

The rain may cause some snowmelt, and could cause flooding in some areas as temperatures will be around 5 C.
