SASKATOON – American man George Allgood has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and attempted murder of her boyfriend.

On Friday, he was sentenced to 25 years in jail for the charge of attempted murder and a mandatory life sentence for first-degree murder with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Both terms will be served concurrently.

“There’s absolutely no doubt justice was done and we live in a safer city because of the verdict and because of the good work of the Saskatoon Police Service and the RCMP undercover team,” said Crown prosecutor Robin Ritter.

In 2006, Allgood fired shots through an open sliding door while his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, Susan Reinhardt, and her boyfriend David Ristow were sleeping in their Saskatoon home.

Ristow survived his injuries.

Reinhardt’s friend Cecile Adamson was in court for the sentencing.

“I’m a little shaky right now because it’s so emotional and it has been for years and I’m just happy to see that justice is finally done,” said Adamson.

“She was a lovely person and a great mother and I know quite often we tend to put people on a pedestal when they’re gone but I’m being honest when I say she really was special.”

In a victim impact statement, the court heard Allgood’s son Jayden had been in hospital twice for post traumatic stress disorder and that he’s been suicidal since his mother’s death.

He now lives with Reinhardt’s mother.

There were no real outbursts from Allgood as the verdict was read. In fact, when he was given the chance to address the judge he apologized but then went on to proclaim his innocence and question evidence used against him.

He had the last word too when the sentence was read to him.

“I look forward to being acquitted of this murder,” said Allgood.

He has already been in custody for three years, which will be taken off his sentence.

If he is ever released he will be immediately deported back to the U.S.
