SASKATOON – Two Alberta companies and a Saskatoon company pleaded guilty in January of fall protection violations after separate incidents in Saskatchewan.
Manix Construction Ltd. was charged following a June 5, 2012 inspection. An occupational health officer observed employees working on a roof in Yorkton, Sask. without utilizing a fall protection system.
On Jan. 6, the Medicine Hat, Alta. company pleaded guilty in provincial court to one charge under OHS regulations. One other charge was stayed.
In a separate case, Kopp Developments Inc. of Sherwood Park, Alta. was charged after an inspection at a Saskatoon senior’s care home on Oct. 10, 2012.
On Jan. 8, the company pleaded guilty to one charge of failure to ensure a worker in a work area used a fall protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more. One other charge was stayed.
A Saskatchewan company operating as National Refrigeration Heating was also charged after an inspector found workers in Preeceville, Sask. were not using a fall protection system on May, 15 2012.
Ainsworth Inc. of Saskatoon failed to ensure workers within a control zone used a travel restraint system to prevent them from getting to the unguarded edge. Two other charges were stayed.
All three companies were fined $840 each.
