Coronavirus outbreak: WHO defends timing of public health emergency declaration

World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus defended the WHO’s handling of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday, saying that the organization had declared an health emergency with enough time for countries to “intervene.” He said that at the time a public health emergency was declared on Jan. 30 there were only 82 cases reported outside China and no deaths.
