PENTICTON - A dangerous offender hearing got underway Monday for a Penticton man who is being sentenced after pleading guilty to seven charges stemming from a horrific sexual assault in August 2011. The Crown believes David Wesley Bobbitt is so dangerous to the public, he should be imprisoned indefinitely. Bobbitt bound, beat and sexually assaulted a young woman customer inside his second hand store in the presence of the woman's two year old son. That woman will give evidence at the hearing. But because she remains so terrified of Bobbitt, she will testify by video from outside the courtroom. The Crown intends to call two other women, who are alleged victims of Bobbitt in previous sexual assaults. The defence lawyer is suggesting one of those woman falsely accused Bobbitt, noting charges were never laid. The dangerous offender hearing is expected to last at least a month with police and medical professionals also testifying. The arguments continue until the second week of July and then the hearing will then be adjourned to September for continuation.
