Police increase patrols around problem high school

CALGARY – Police are investigating some ongoing violence issues at and around a northeast Calgary high school.

Officers were called to James Fowler High School twice on Monday due to several fights between different groups.

During one incident, there were girls fighting with knives and baseball bats. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt.

Police say they are increasing patrols in the area because there have been so many of these incidents

“Different races, ages, males, females, things stemming from weekends, disagreements over text messaging, emails…it’s a wide variety and that’s why we’re trying to get everyone together to effectively address this,” says Sgt. Duane Lepchuck.

Police are working with the school to try and come up with solutions.

There are 21 Calgary police officers working as school resource officers throughout the city.
