Emergency crews responded just before 11 p.m. to the scene involving two cars just north of Lansdowne Street. A section of The Parkway was closed for the investigation and cleanup.

Paramedics treated one driver at the scene before taking them to hospital for further treatment.

Police say the other driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. Open alcohol was also found in the vehicle.

A 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with two counts of impaired driving (alcohol and blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus) and one count each of driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor, driving a vehicle with liquor readily available and failure to sign a driver’s licence in ink.

He was issued an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on Sept. 5, police said Tuesday.
