A man died in a single-vehicle collision on Crowchild Trail on Friday morning, Calgary police say.
Calgary police said that around 2 a.m., a driver was heading south on Crowchild Trail Northwest and failed to maintain the curve of the lane at the intersection on 24th Avenue Northwest. The vehicle then went over the curb and struck a light pole. The 77-year-old man was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe excessive speed and alcohol are factors in the collision.
Calgary police said Crowchild Trail was closed Friday morning between 16th Avenue Northwest and 32nd Avenue Northwest for several hours.
