Edmonton physician charged with sexual assault

EDMONTON – Ismail Taher, a 36-year-old physician, has been charged with sexual assault after an alleged incident at a Medicentre Medical Clinic in Sherwood Park in August.

A 19-year-old woman from Sherwood Park told police she had been sexually assaulted by a male physician at the clinic on Bremmer Drive on Aug. 17 while at the clinic for an illness.

Strathcona County RCMP began investigating the report, and ended up charging Taher with one count of sexual assault.

Taher appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was released on $5,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Court on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

RCMP continues to investigate and is trying to determine if there could be any other similar incidents.
