A 17-year-old boy is dead after a shooting at a Pickering townhouse complex on Sunday.
Durham Regional Police said the shooting happened in the area of Valley Farm and Kingston roads. Emergency crews responded at around 9:40 p.m.
“They arrived on scene here and located a 17-year-old male that had been shot,” Durham police Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss told reporters.
“Officers, as well as paramedics, attempted to perform life-saving measures which were unfortunately unsuccessful and the male was pronounced deceased on scene. We are now making an appeal to the public for any witnesses to this event to come forward.”
In a later update, police identified the teen as Anthony D The victim has been identified as a 17-year-old male, Anthony DIXON.
Bortoluss said it’s believed an older-model four-door sedan, possibly a Honda, pulled into the complex and shots were fired from the vehicle before it fled the scene.

“We are looking for an unknown number of suspects,” Bortoluss said.
She said officers believe the shooting was an “isolated incident” and there is no danger to public safety.
Durham police’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation and will have a command post set up at the scene.
It’s not clear if the victim was inside or outside when he was shot, or if he was a resident of the complex.
There’s also no word on how many people may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
“I don’t have any information of who was here, but if people were here and they might have cellphone video, any information, if they saw anything before, during, or after, we’re asking those people to come forward,” Bortoluss said, noting that they can approach the command post.
Tracy Greig, the CEO of Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation, which owns the property where the shooting occurred, said there are a few surveillance cameras at the complex and footage would be provided to police as needed.
“Our hearts go out to the family that has been affected and to all the tenants,” she said.
“That will be our role today: to support the tenants as best we can. We, of course, will support the police in every way possible….
“I think it’s a great community that’s here…. It’s a safe community.”
