A woman is dead after a serious motor vehicle crash in St. Catharines, Ont. Friday morning, according to Niagara Regional Police (NRPS).
Investigators say an 86-year-old passenger from St. Catharines was killed when an older model Toyota Camry entered the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a trailer at the intersection of Third Street Louth and Fifth Avenue Louth just before 8 a.m.
Police said the 81-year-old driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters before being transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Third Street Louth was closed for several hours between Fourth Avenue and St. Paul Street West while Fifth Avenue Louth was also closed between First Street Louth and Fifth Street.
A police spokesperson told Global News in an email there were no other physical injuries as a result of the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been laid.
