Global News spoke with Coun. Nick Adey, who is the acting mayor of Prince Rupert. “It’s a horrific tragedy,” Adey said.

“On behalf of the city and council, we want to extend our condolences to the friends and family involved.”

Adey said in their small community, incidents like this don’t happen very often.

“For me, one of the things that it brings home is … as we watch the news of the world, we see these events happen in other communities and other countries, we allow ourselves a certain distance from them, as tragic as they are, and when it happens in your home community, it is a very hard lesson that these things are real,” Adey said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-624-2136.
