Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were called to the site of the crash in a field near Eight Mile Road and Wonderland Road around 10:34 a.m.

Police say the two occupants were out for a flight in their private helicopter when they experienced a “mechanical failure.”

The pair, an instructor and a student pilot, were practising an auto-rotation landing as part of a training flight when the incident occurred, a Transportation Safety Board of Canada spokesperson said in an email.

“This occurrence was classified as a Class 5 occurrence in accordance with the TSB Policy on Occurrence Classification. The investigation is limited to data gathering and the data are recorded for statistical reporting and future analysis,” said Chris Krepski of the TSB.

The helicopter has since been removed from the property and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
