Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning alerting residents in Hamilton and Niagara Region of the potential for 10 to 20 cm of snow by Thursday.
Canada’s weather agency says it’s expecting the white stuff to start falling late Wednesday, reducing visibility on the roads due to “rapidly accumulating snow.”
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” the warning said.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”
Global News senior meteorologist Anthony Farnell says a Texas low arriving in southern Ontario Wednesday is the cause of the system that will likely also bring wind gusts of up to 45 km/h as well.
“Blowing snow will also be of concern late Wednesday,” Farnell said.
“So you’re not going to want to really be on the roads late Wednesday as this roars in.”
The warning in Hamilton suggests the city will see between 15 and 20 cm starting Wednesday morning into Thursday.
Niagara Region could see between 10 cm and 15 cm in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie.
Snow and flurries are in the general forecast for both areas over the next week with daily high temperatures hovering between 0 C and -5 C over the next seven days.
Lows overnight will range between 0 C and -7 C.
