London, Ont., police have declared a “serious incident” involving a train and a pedestrian near the city’s downtown as fatal.
On Wednesday at 6 a.m., emergency crews were called to the area of York and Maitland streets for reports that a westbound train had struck a pedestrian.

According to police, the pedestrian was taken to hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
“There’s nothing to indicate that the death is suspicious in nature,” Const. Sandasha Bough with the London Police Service told Global News.
The train was stopped along York Street between Ridout and Egerton streets during the initial investigation, but all crossings have since reopened.
London police and CN Rail police remain at the scene to continue with the investigation.
“I’m not able to speak to the CN Rail Police portion of the investigation, [but] I can say that right now, it will be reassigned to members of our major crime section to work in conjunction with the chief coroner in relation to the death investigation,” she said.
