‘Ongoing matter’ resolved in Southwold, Ont. after heavy police presence and road closure

Elgin County OPP said an “ongoing matter” in the Township of Southwold that saw heavy police presence in the area has been resolved.

On Sunday at 7:56 p.m., police initiated an investigation following a disturbance at a home on Fingal Line.

Police have not detailed the cause of the incident but asked residents to avoid the area as police still remained on the scene Monday morning.

At 2:38 p.m., an individual was taken into custody without incident in relation to the investigation.

Police say there was never any threat to public safety and more details pertaining to the investigation will be released once they become available.

Fingal Line between Union Road and Oneida Road has since reopened.

“Elgin County OPP would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation and support during this incident,” officials wrote in a statement.
