Cameco gets uranium licences renewed

Cameco gets uranium licences renewed for northern Saskatchewan mines. File / Global News

SASKATOON – The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has renewed Cameco’s uranium mine and mill-operating licences for three facilities in northern Saskatchewan.

The licences are valid for 10 years starting next month.

The commission says its staff will provide annual reports on operations at the Key Lake, McArthur River and Rabbit Lake operations.

The reports will be made available at public hearings with a special focus on environmental performance.

The decision to renew the licences follows three days of hearings earlier this month during which an environmental group raised pollution concerns.

Cameco (TSX:CCO) said the Sierra Club’s allegations that it massively exceeded regulatory limits are false.
