EDMONTON – Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that tore through two homes in north Edmonton overnight.
Fire crews were called shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday, to the area of 84th St. and 173rd Ave., after a couple of passerbys saw smoke and sparks coming from one of the homes. Firefighters say the fire quickly spread to a neighbouring home.
“We had an initial response of five units that arrived, immediately requested two additional units, so there was up to 35 firefighters on scene battling the fire at the time,” said Captain Joe Koreman with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
One of the houses was empty at the time. There were two people home in other house who managed to escape without injury.
