A 29-year-old man has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his parents in their home in Île-Bizard.
Mitchell Arnott appeared briefly by videoconference Thursday afternoon while in police custody. He is accused of killing his mother Louise Boucher, 65, and his father Wayne Arnott, 60.
Montreal police were called around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a private residence on des Érables Avenue near the intersection of des Noyers Avenue in the suburban neighbourhood.
Police found the bodies of Wayne Arnott and Boucher inside the home. Both victims bore signs of trauma and they were declared dead at the scene.
The accused was arrested near the home. Police say the killings were likely sparked by a conflict between family members.
“Concerning the 29-year-old, police found him covered in blood,” police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said.
A security perimeter was established around the home and remained in place Thursday morning. The case has been transferred to the major crimes unit.
The homicides marks the 30th and 31st on Montreal police territory this year.
The accused is expected back in court on Nov. 26.
