One person is dead following a collision on Calgary’s southwest ring road.
AHS EMS confirmed a call came in at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday of a motor vehicle collision on Stoney Trail at 90 Avenue S.W.
Police said a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was heading south along Tsuut’ina Trail approaching the overpass near 90 Avenue S.W. The truck left the road and crossed into the grass and dirt median as it approached the overpass.
The truck then rotated and continued forward, striking a second bridge support column before being deflected towards the roadway. The truck came to a stop at the edge of the median, police said.
EMS said one person was declared dead at the scene. Police said in a news release on Wednesday that the person was a man in his 30s.
STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched but was stood down when the person was determined to be deceased.
Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision, police said.
