St. Paul RCMP responded to a call of a possible abduction from Saddle Lake Cree Nation just before 7:30 a.m. The two suspects, a male and a female of unknown age, fled in a red pickup truck, according to a police statement.

Alberta RCMP said in a tweet they believed the suspects to “be armed and dangerous.”

Once officers located the suspects near Smoky Lake, “an interaction occurred, ultimately leading to a confrontation between police and the suspects that results in officers discharging their service weapons,” reads an RCMP news release Monday evening.

No officers were injured, police said.

St. Paul RCMP will continue their investigation into the original allegation of possible abduction, while another investigation will take place under The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) – standard protocol after an officer discharges their weapon.
