HALIFAX – The lawyer for a former Nova Scotia politician who will be sentenced next week for defrauding the province of more than $5,000 says his client has now been charged with impaired driving.
Lyle Howe says Trevor Zinck was charged with the offence late Wednesday, but he declined to offer details.
Howe says he will be representing Zinck, who is scheduled to make a court appearance Nov. 12.
A spokesman for Halifax Regional Police confirms that a 42-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Franklyn Court in Dartmouth after police received an earlier complaint about an impaired driver on Highway 7.
The driver was released from custody, but police won’t release his name until after the impaired driving charge is sworn before a judge.
Zinck pleaded guilty in June to fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust for accepting about $9,000 from the Speaker’s Office to cover constituency expenses in 2008 and 2009, even though he didn’t pay those he claimed were owed money, except for a partial amount to one group.power rates for five years.
