Interpretive dance ‘I QUIT’ video inspires parodies

TORONTO – Forgetting for a second the state of the economy and the fact that the jobless rate for young workers is at a record high, there is perhaps nothing more satisfying than watching a good old-fashioned “I QUIT” video.

Well, perhaps there is one thing more satisfying – recording and starring in an “I QUIT” video.

Inspired by writer and comedian Marina Shifrin – who quit her job at Taiwanese animation company Next Media Animation via interpretive dance to Kanye West’s “Gone” – work-at-home mom Brenna Jennings records her own video (you can watch the video above).

In the same vein as Shifrin’s video, Jennings dances throughout her workspace, lamenting the toils of the job.

“I live with an awesome family…They trash my house,” reads the video subtitles. “My bathroom is a petri dish…This is to let my family know that I QUIT.”

Jennings said she was inspired by Shifrin’s video. “I remember the feeling of wanting in my 20s to quit a horrible, soul-crushing job but not having the guts (or the technology, it was 1998!) to do it in such a savvy, satisfying way.” The New Hampshire mother wanted to “give props” to Shifrin.

Jennings parody video caught the eye of Shifrin.

You can watch Shifrin’s original video here, which now has over 8.4 million views on YouTube, just days after being posted.

Days after Shifrin’s video went viral, her jilted employer posted a rebuttal, announcing that the company is hiring. No really, they’re hiring.
