Mounties investigating late night double stabbing in Kelowna

Two people were seriously injured in downtown Kelowna overnight after what police say was a double stabbing.

A fight broke out shortly before 3 a.m. in the alley south of the Fire Hall on Water Street, RCMP Cpl. Tammy Lobb said.

Officers that had been patrolling in the area intervened and learned that a 26-year-old man and 28-year-old man had suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries that appeared to be from a stabbing, Lobb said.

They were transported to the hospital while the suspect, a 33-year-old man, was arrested on the scene for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, Lobb said.

“He is currently being held in police custody as the investigation unfolds,” she said.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the Kelowna RCMP General Investigative Services, Assault-Robbery Unit.

“It is unknown at this time, what led up to this act of violence,”   Lobb said. “If anyone has information about this stabbing, our investigators want to hear from them. Please contact the Kelowna RCMP GIS by calling 250-762-3300 and quote file number 2022-21659.
