Mission Earls still rebuilding after June flooding

CALGARY – Many businesses in the community of Mission are continuing their cleanup efforts after flooding in June which paralyzed the city.

One of the businesses that was hardest hit is Earls Tin Palace on 4 Street S.W.

About four feet of water rushed into the eatery in June, completely destroying booths, chairs, tables and all of their custom kitchen equipment.

“Everything that water could have gotten to… it go to,” says Rielly Whitman, General Manager. “It’s all going to have to be new.”

About 150 employees who work at the location have been out of work since the flood.

The restaurant is projected to open by the end of January.

Meanwhile, services have been restored at many other area businesses, such as Sante spa on 24 Avenue S.W. which has reopened after regaining their electricity.

Irish pub Joyce on 4th doesn’t expect to reopen until the 2014 Superbowl.

German beer hall Wurst still has lots of restoration work to complete in their basement, which was submerged with floodwater, but hope to open by November 15th.
