“This investment in human capital will go a long way in attracting even more cutting-edge agricultural research here in Saskatchewan,” said federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.

“[This] research provides Saskatchewan producers with the tools and information to be industry leaders, increase production and continue producing safe, reliable products to feed a growing world population,” added Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart.

Included is funding for the creation of a new forage research chair, which came about after feedback from industry groups.

The money was provided under the province’s strategic research program which was introduced in 1986 through a series of five-year agreements.

A recent evaluation of the program by KPMG found they produce nine dollars in benefits to producers for every dollar invested by the provincial government.
