Snow squall watches and freezing rain warnings are in place in several locations in southern Ontario on Sunday morning.
Environment Canada issued snow squall watches for York, Durham and the Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Innisfil and Dufferin areas.
Snow squall watches are also in place for the Grey-Bruce region, and in Huron-Perth.
The agency also issued snow squall watches for the Muskoka area, and in Parry Sound, and in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes areas.
A snow squall watch is also in place for the Waterloo-Wellington region.
“A sharp cold front will move through the area today ushering in very cold Arctic Air,” Environment Canada said Sunday. “Snow squalls are expected to develop over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay this afternoon and finally taper off on Monday.”
The snow squalls are expected to end on Monday for some areas, but continue until Tuesday morning for some places.
Forecasted snowfall amounts for most places indicate that rates of 10 to 15 centimetres over 12 hours are possible.
“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather,” the weather agency said.
“Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.”
Meanwhile, other parts of southern Ontario are under a freezing rain warning.
Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for the Brockville Leeds and Grenville areas, and for Cornwall and Morrisburg.
Freezing rain warnings are also in place for Kingston, Prince Edward County and in Stirling, Tweed and Frontenac.
The advisory Sunday said the areas can expect “periods of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle this morning.”
“Untreated surfaces like roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” the warnings read.
According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark later Sunday morning which will end the risk of freezing rain.
