Highway 97 in Kaleden is now open to single lane alternating traffic following a Wednesday morning crash between a transport truck and a pickup.
The Penticton RCMP received a report just before 8 a.m., of a serious collision on Highway 97 near Larch Avenue in Kaleden.
A southbound pickup truck and a northbound transport truck collided, RCMP said in a morning press release.
In the afternoon, police said “initial information at scene suggested a pick-up truck travelling south on Highway 97 crossed the double solid line, colliding with an on-coming semi-trailer. The pick-up truck sideswiped the semi-trailer’s cab, which included a diesel fuel tank. This resulted in a diesel spill.”
Police said the pickup truck driver was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The route is significantly busier than usual with highways around the province being closed.
Anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any other information, is asked to call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
