TORONTO – Known for his brash and colourful creations, famed U.K. architect Will Alsop admits the concept behind the extension to the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) in Toronto wasn’t planned.

“I had no idea I was going to do a box on legs, flying at that sort of height, but that’s what happened,” Alsop said during an interview on Global Toronto’s The Morning Show.
The now famous square boxed structure on colourful crayon-type stilts continues to polarize Torontonians and visitors alike.
“I had no real preconception when they gave me the job,” he said. “People are always nervous of change.”
Alsop is currently working on a design to transform the look and feel of the Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue area with the construction of an 11-story building.
