GALLERY: Calgary Transit unveils new sleeker CTrain cars

CALGARY – Transit officials have unveiled sleek new CTrain cars which will be operating in Calgary beginning in 2015.

The new light rail vehicles from Siemens Canada are air-conditioned and three to four times more reliable than the old U2 trains, according to officials.

City Council will pay a total of $200 million to purchase 60 new CTrain cars.

Each LRV will cost approximately $3.2 million. Calgary Transit aims to increase their fleet from 192 vehicles to 390 over the next 30 years.

The first new CTrain will be delivered in August 2015, with the full order of 60 to be completed by December 2016.
