Police confirmed the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team was a part of the response, and said the man was taken into custody “safely.”

Police have yet to comment on the nature of the incident.

Whistler RCMP had posted a bulletin to social media around 11:30 a.m. urging people to avoid Underhill Lane at Highway 99 in Pemberton.

“Please do not come to the location at this time (or make) social media posts of police locations,” Mounties said in a post to Twitter.

Police said officers would remain in the area for “the next while,” and asked people to be patient with the disruption.
