A Calgary man was found dead in the southeast community of Erin Woods on Tuesday morning after a firearms call in the early morning hours.
Police and paramedics were called to Erin Circle Southeast at about 5:40 a.m. for a firearms report.
The man was found in medical distress, but despite the efforts of first responders, he died at the scene.
Investigators said the suspect fled before officers arrived, and they do not have a description of the person.
Photos from the scene showed several police vehicles and officers on the street, and a portion of the block taped off with police tape.
No other injuries were reported, and police said there was no concern to the public following the incident.
‘It’s very unusual’
According to neighbours who wouldn’t speak on camera, two loud bangs could be heard in the area early Tuesday morning.
Other neighbours told Global News it was surprising to see such a large police presence in the community.
“This is a quiet neighbourhood — lots of families and lots of kids,” Tam Ferrer said. “It’s very unusual. I’ve been here for over two years, and there’s nothing happening like this or cops around.”
Another neighbour, who has lived in the area for more than 20 years, said she didn’t know much about the home police were investigating.
Police have not released any details on how the man died. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
