Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones split: report

TORONTO — Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have split, according to a cover story in the new issue of People.

The magazine reported Wednesday that neither star has filed for divorce. It quoted sources as saying the couple is “taking a break.”

According to People, Douglas and Zeta-Jones have not been photographed together since April 22 and he is currently vacationing in Sardinia while she remains home in New York.

The report claims the pair decided to spend time apart after Douglas returned from the Cannes Film Festival, where he was promoting the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra.

The cover of the new issue of People declares: “Their Marriage Crumbles: Hard Times, Hurt Feelings.”

Douglas, 68, has battled cancer and Zeta-Jones, 43, has sought treatment for bipolar disorder.
