Tracy McGrady announces retirement via Twitter

TORONTO – Former Toronto Raptors draft pick Tracy McGrady announced his retirement from the NBA via Twitter Monday morning.

In the tweet, McGrady thanks his fans for their support throughout his career in the NBA:

McGrady was drafted ninth overall in the 1997 draft by the Toronto Raptors. He played three seasons alongside his cousin Vince Carter and led the team to its first playoff berth in 2000.

He was picked up by the Orlando Magic after a brief stint in free agency during the 2000 offseason. After four years in Orlando, he played for the Houston Rockets, the New York Knicks, the Detroit Piston, Atlanta Hawks and most recently the San Antonio Spurs.

After moving out of Toronto, McGrady had an impressive career as a seven-time NBA All-Star and a two-time NBA scoring champion.
