A woman and several pets died in a house fire in Peterborough on Thursday night, police report.
Around 11 p.m. crews with Peterborough FIre Services received several calls of a structure fire at College Street at McDonnel Street, including a call from a Peterborough Police Service officer on patrol in the area.
When they arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from one home and spreading to another adjacent home.
On Friday afternoon, the Peterborough Police Service reported a 68-year-old woman and several pets died in the blaze.
The victim has not been identified.
Police and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating the fire.
“Police are also looking for any information on anyone seen in the area at the time with fireworks,” police stated Friday afternoon.

A second fire at an abandoned home on Cumberland Avenue just before midnight is also being investigated as suspicious. Currently there are no known links between the two.
