Peterborough Public Health reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday while vaccination rates continue to increase.
In its update at 4:14 p.m., the health unit reported 17 active COVID-19 cases, down from 20 reported 24 hours earlier. The health unit serves the City of Peterborough, all municipalities within Peterborough County, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.
Of the health unit’s 1,577 cumulative cases since the pandemic began, 1,539 are now deemed resolved — an additional three since Tuesday. The resolved cases make up approximately 97.5 per cent of all cases.
The number of variant cases as of Wednesday is 747, an additional three cases since Tuesday. The health unit confirmed its first Delta variant case on June 19. The first confirmed variant case in the health unit’s jurisdiction was reported on Feb. 23.
Other COVID-19 data for Wednesday:
- Outbreaks: None active. Since the pandemic began, the health unit has dealt with 304 COVID-19 cases associated with 50 outbreaks.
- Close contacts: 76, down from 79 reported on Tuesday.
- Hospitalizations: at least 77 cases have required hospitalized care since the pandemic was declared — unchanged since Tuesday; 15 cases required the intensive care unit (unchanged). The ICU admissions make up one per cent of all the health unit’s cases.
- Peterborough Regional Health Centre: reports as of noon Wednesday there were five COVID-19 inpatients — unchanged since Tuesday. There have been at least 76 patient transfers from other areas (unchanged).
- Deaths: 21 — the latest on Sunday, May 30, one of four that month. Since the pandemic was declared, two deaths have been linked to the Empress Gardens Retirement Residence in Peterborough. Another death was linked to the Severn Court Student Residence February outbreak in Peterborough, while three were tied to a November 2020 outbreak at Fairhaven.
- Trent University: reports no cases.
- Fleming College: reports no cases related to its Sutherland campus.
- More than 53,650 people have been tested for COVID-19 — an additional 50 since Monday.

Vaccination
In its weekly vaccination update, the health unit reports 127,573 total vaccine doses have been administered at area clinics.
Other data:
- 96,708: Number of residents with a first vaccine dose (up from 94,834 reported on June 16)
- 30,649: Number of residents with a first and second vaccine dose (20,486 were reported on June 16)
- Approximately 76.8 per cent of adults (age 18 and older) have received at least a first vaccine dose; 23.2 per cent are unvaccinated
- Approximately 59.6 per cent of youth (age 12-17) have received at least a first vaccine dose; 40.4 per cent are unvaccinated
The health unit is hosting additional vaccination clinics in Peterborough County. Upcoming clinics include:
- Friday, June 25: Buckhorn at the Buckhorn Community Centre
- Saturday, June 26: Apsley at the North Kawartha Community Centre
A walk-in, pop-up clinic for youth ages 12-17 and their families will be held on Saturday, June 26 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Evinrude Centre/Healthy Planet Arena in Peterborough. First doses will be administered — youth will receive the Pfizer vaccine.
All vaccination appointments must be made via the provincial call centre at 1-833-943-3900, available daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or any time online. Clinics are being run at the Evinrude Centre/Healthy Planet Arena and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
