Liberal Party candidate Mona Fortier is projected to win re-election in Ottawa-Vanier.
The riding of Ottawa—Vanier is bordered by the Rideau Canal to the west, the Ottawa River to the north and Greens Creek to the east.
The southern border of the riding follows Highway 417 eastward to the abandoned Canadian Pacific Railway, then juts north to Innes Road and then Blair Road, and then down the Queensway to where the highway hits Greens Creek.
Mona Fortier of the Liberal Party won this riding’s in the 2019 federal election, garnering 51.2 per cent of the vote. Fortier beat the NDP’s Stéphanie Mercier by 19,163 votes. Conservative candidate Joel E. Bernard came in third place with 11,118 votes.
The riding has been a Liberal stronghold since it was first represented in 1974, with just three Liberal MPs holding the reins since then.
Ottawa—Vanier is home to 111,508 residents and 92,837 registered voters. Immigrants make up 25 per cent of this riding, with popular origin countries consisting of Haiti and Lebanon, according to the 2016 census.
