This riding of Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill is relatively new. It was created as part of the 2012 federal redistribution.

It comprises a part of York Region, including parts of Aurora and Richmond Hill. It is located east of Bathurst Street, west of Highway 404, south of Wellington and north of Richmond Hill at Elgin Mills Road.

Immigrants in this riding make up 49 per cent of the population, with large communities originating from China, Iran, and Hong Kong. The most common non-official mother tongues in the region include Mandarin, Cantonese and Persian.

Conservative MP Leona Alleslev, a former Liberal who crossed the floor in 2018, was re-elected to represent the riding in 2019. In a tight race, Alleslev beat Taylor Roy by two percentage points, collecting 44.4 per cent of the vote. The latter garnered 42.4 per cent.

Alleslev first took control over the seat in the 2015 election as a Liberal. Three years later, she crossed the floor due to alleged disagreements with the Liberal government over policy positions that she said were met with “silence.”
